Technological advances in tax matters, especially in electronic invoicing, have led taxpayers to issue more Digital Tax Proofs online (CFDI) every day.

According to data from the Tax Administration Service (SAT), a total of 4,976.5 million electronic invoices have been issued as of September this year, meaning that, per second, 211 digital receipts were recorded.

In the same period last year, tax payers issued 4,759.8 million CFDIs, i.e. they created 202 electronic invoices per second, 4.5% less than what was recorded this year. In addition, a total of 6,517.5 million invoices were recorded throughout 2017, resulting in 207 receipts.

On several occasions, the SAT, by Osvaldo Santín, has pointed out that the observed increase in the number of invoices made is due to the mandatory issuance of the electronic invoice since 2014.

The FIGURE of the CFDI was created in 2010, but it was until 2014 that these became mandatory and the paper and barcode voucher disappeared, while last year the new version 3.3 of the electronic invoice came into force , which brought with it different changes and new tools.

“Emission growth is due to the strictest extent to tax conditions. From July last year the CFDI version 3.3 and the payment add-on theme began to be formalized. The latter is being even stricter because it states that any taxpayer who buys goods or services and wants to deduct or credit them must have these receipts,” said Manuel Toledo, partner of Proactive Tax & Legal

For his part, José Manuel Velderrain, partner of Velderrain, Sáenz and Associates, pointed out that the increase is also due to the economic growth that the country registers, since it leads to a greater number of trades in which CFDIs are issued. In addition, another factor that supported growth was a greater register of taxpayers in the register, which today totals 70.5 million cause.

Control and ease

The increase in the issuance of electronic invoices benefits the tax authority, as this way they will be able to have more information about the taxpayers and the transactions they carry out, Manuel Toledo said.

In this regard, he explained that it would be easier for the tax office to keep track of who is or is not complying with its tax obligations and also to detect irregularities by taxpayers, which could benefit them from more efficient audits.

For their part, he added, taxpayers benefit from having digital support of their accounts, which will help them more easily meet their tax obligations.

The new invoice cancellation process will take effect from today. The new services required for this, the SAT reported, will be available to all taxpayers through its Internet portal.

In accordance with this new provision, invoices may only be cancelled when the person in favour of the cancellation is issued is informed, “guaranteeing the recipient’s right to know the cancellation request and be able to accept it or reject it.”
